A new label for restored print at Lumière festival: Submit a film!

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Lumière festival creates Lumière Classics, a series featuring the most outstanding restored films of the year.

In just a decade, the Lumière festival has become the paramount event of classic cinema, an international reference, a place dedicated to the history of cinema, bringing audiences together to experience the vitality, value and beauty of film.

The New Restorations section, a key component of the program, has been renamed Lumière Classics and will become the Lumière festival's label to support the selection of films. It will consist of two categories: French films and international films.

We are thus pleased to present the new series, part of the festival’s unique setting, composed of films from around the world, restored and put forward by archives, producers, rights holders, distributors, studios and film libraries.

This year, a jury, whose members will soon be announced, will participate in the festival series. Its task will not be to judge or classify the films artistically, but to assess the work of restoration, the potential return of certain films and to celebrate those who keep classic cinema alive.

For eligibility, films must be registered before Monday, July 8th. Once selected, they will be screened in an official festival movie theater of Lyon and/or its metropolis. The final lineup will be announced at the end of August.

Participation conditions

1. The films must be in 35mm or DCP format and subtitled in French.

2. The material must be ready by Friday, September 20, 2019.
